Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 265,
This election isn’t about parties or personalities—it’s about our livelihoods, our dignity, and our rights. It’s about the pensions we’ve worked our entire lives to secure, the protections that keep us safe on the job, and the respect we’re owed for the work we do. I’ll keep this brief because I know that a long letter can lose attention, but I encourage each of you to dig into the facts yourself. Look into the court cases, the NLRB appointments, and the recent legislation that affects our work and our future. I’m here to make sure everyone knows where these leaders stand when it comes to labor, based on facts, not opinions.
Much of what truly impacts us doesn’t make the news, but Kamala Harris has shown her commitment through real actions that strengthen our foundation as working people. Under the current administration, billions have been allocated to secure the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), protecting the pensions that so many of us rely on. NLRB appointments now reflect labor values, giving us a fair shot at organizing and collective bargaining. The CHIPS Act has brought high-stakes manufacturing and tech projects back to American soil, prioritizing union jobs in these industries. And this administration has held the line on union-led apprenticeships, ensuring that the training that makes our work safe and respected remains rigorous and recognized.
We know what happens when labor’s power is undercut. Look no further than Janus, Epic Systems, and Glacier Northwest—court decisions that chipped away at our bargaining strength, our collective voice, and even our right to strike. Kamala Harris understands that the courts affect us every day, and she’s consistently supported labor-friendly appointments to protect these rights.
This election is a turning point. Kamala Harris has proven herself to be an ally to working people, defending our pensions, apprenticeships, and our right to union jobs in essential projects—even when it doesn’t make the headlines. I ask each of you to look closely at who truly stands with labor and vote for a future that respects everything we bring to this country.
In solidarity and strength,
President, SMART Local 265
